FIL in Florida is telling me that due to a "change in the law" Canadians can no longer spend such a long time out of the country. As a consequence some/many? are selling their snow-bird manufactured homes (in his community).

Anyone know what this about.... assuming that something has actually changed?

They can stay 120 days in a 12 month period without filling an IRS 8044 form. If they stay over 120 days and up to the allowed 182 days per 12 month period they have to file one.

Correction: "They can stay 120 days in a 12 month period without filling an IRS 8044 form."

This should read you can stay 120 days in 3 - 12 month periods without filling an IRS 8044 form.
