A language question - isn't "folio" the word for a ticket? Multa being "fine".

This is one of those situations where you can choose to speak "The Queen's English" with a stiff upper lip, or you can speak Mexican Spanish as is commonly used by Mexicans and other Americans.

You are technically correct. Do you pronounce your d's as a the lisped "th"? Do you use "vosotros"? Do you pronounce your Z's like Zebra or do you use the S sound? How about B's and V's - do you choose the American convention(s) or do you speak like a Spaniard. Spanish spoken in the Americas by Americans really is different than proper Spanish from the Iberian Peninsula.

It seems better to use common language here when interacting with police officers who likely have very little education, especially since our intent is to show in a subtle way that you are not some gringo who just came here ~ a sheep ready to be shorn by eager policia.
