Part 1 - Tips & Tricks for using Garmin & TomTom GPS in Mexico

| Private Reply
Each month I will post a list of questions and answers for Garmin
and TomTom GPS users.

1. Why will my Garmin not accept the address for Guadalajar Mexico?
This because in Mexico, we use (Colonia) name.

For this example, I used Garmin nuvi 1300 with new 2012.20 map of Mexico.
Search for Costco address, located in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico using
(Colonia) Name

A. Change state/Country>Jalisco, Mexico
B. Enter City name>Eucalipto Vallarta, Jal
C. Enter Street>Rafael Sanzio
D. Enter House Number>4775>Select from list: Avenida Rafael Sanzio
45020 Eucalipto Vallarta, Jal
Note: for more information about (Colonia)

2. How do I find intersection on TomTom?

For this example I used TomTom One XL, with new 2011 map of Mexico
Search for Costco located at intersection, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico

A. Navigate to>Address>Cross Street or Intersection
B. City: Eucalipto Vallarta JA (Zapopan JA)
C. Street: Avendia Rafael Sanzio
D. Cross Street: Avenida Vallarta

Note: Both Garmin and TomTom GPS units, there are many ways to search address and (POI) point of interest

3. Can I view the map in GPS unit on my computer?

Both Garmin and TomTom have a free software that will allow you to view and update maps and firmware on PC.
