Villas Buena Vida on Mexico's Nayarit Riviera is a favorite with families and snowbirds
As sunlight flooded my room, I opened my eyes to see pelicans gliding in formation above the blue Mexican Pacific. I stretched, brewed a pot of coffee, and enjoyed a steaming cup on the balcony overlooking the beach as the world awakened.
Life is laid back and casual in the Mexico town of Rincon de Guayabitos, and hotel Villas Buena Vida offers all the creature comforts for a quiet vacation in the sun. All villas and suites feature a kitchenette with stove and refrigerator for heating up a bite to eat and keeping cold drinks icy. Popular with vacationing families, the oceanfront suites also attract snowbirds who stay several weeks or more to fish, swim and explore the Nayarit Riviera.
This part of the scenic coast attracts avid birdwatchers, and local tours include canoe trips into mangrove estuaries as well as guided tours in all terrain vehicles. Parasailing and banana boat rides attract the adventurous, and boat trips can be arranged to an island in the bay. Whales usually make an appearance in the autumn.
Back at the hotel, a cool dip in the swimming pool, an icy beer or a frosty lemonade in a beach chair, and a spectacular sunset set the mood for a walk on the beach by moonlight.
This Mexico hotel's comfortable accommodations include cable TV, ceiling fans and air conditioning, and wireless internet connections. Coffee pots, irons, toasters, microwave ovens, baby cribs and VCRs are available and should be requested in advance. An abundance of seafood restaurants are all within walking distance, and shops offer beach apparel, souvenirs and groceries for those who want to eat in. There's an ATM near the hotel and Puerto Vallarta's galleries, boutiques and nightlife are just 45 minutes away. No wonder we go back year after year!
