Dear Miss Geri:
You are talking about one of the most beautiful regions in Mexico: la Huasteca. Four states meet in this extraordinary area: San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Veracruz and Tamaulipas. This is mountain, river, lake and dense forest country. Water is everywhere, as flowers and green and life.
Tamazunchale is a river, a sierra, and a small town. This last one is located in the heart of la Huasteca potosina, so called because it is inside the borders of the state of San Luis Potosí. Apart from the graceful people that lives there, the exuberant landscape, the ancient cultures (la Huasteca was a stronghold of résistance against Aztec expansion in pre-Columbian times), the many traditional fiestas, la Huasteca boasts a unique feature: its colorful, very different local music, represented by sones and huapangos huastecos. You may take a look at the URL posted below for a nice picture and a brief explanation on the region.Other sites, all with information in Spanish:

Sr. Dumois:
Muchas gracia re info re Tamazunchale...You certainly know YOUR Mexico! I bet this is the place that my friend in San Luis Potosi wants to take me. I am so "traveled out" right now, dunno if I can get there. I just heard from her for the first time in ages, and if she still wants to go there, how can I say "no," after your wonderful description.
