I need to find information on getting from Laredo, Texas to Guanajuato. All of the bus company websites I have been able to locate only service the central part of the country. Your help/suggestions would really be appreciated! Thanks.

Try www.magic-bus.com You can even email Steve if you can't find the info you need....Good luck! Also, I think Greyhound may be providing service out of Laredo... if not, the site has links for buses to/from Mexico/United States.

Are any of the schedules of Mexican buses or other related info about them accessible by the Internet? If so, where?

Best and most complete source for Mexico bus system is: "Bus Across Mexico", Bengi Publishing Co., 280 28th St. #613, Oakland, CA 94611. $19.95 - It lists over 4,000 bus schedules and fares to towns and cities across Mexico.

For those who are interested in information about the Mexican bus system, I suggest that you read my article. You will find a practical article on how to use the Mexican bus system, which is an excellent system. The last time I checked, they (www.mexconnected.com) had my article at http://www.mexconnected.com/mex_/travel/rferguson/rfbus.html They reorganize their site occasionally, but you should be able to find my article by searching on the word bus or trying one of the indexes. It was originally published in the April 1998 "issue," which was still available the last time I looked under "back issues."

Editor's comment: Yes, the article is still at that URL.

Some web sites that link to Mexico Bus websites are below, but remember that maybe 5% of the first class bus lines have web sites. Also, keep in mind that many of these websites are not actively maintained, so may contain out of date schedules and other information.

http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Island/9519/

http://www.etn.com.mx This is one of the luxury bus lines.
If you do not have WWW access, or if you have questions, drop me a line and I will try to help. Richard Ferguson raferguson@worldnet.att.net

Just as a footnote to Richard's post, I believe the regular ADO website is under construction. It used to be at ado.com.mx, now it shows up under grupoado.com.mx, but the site only seems to have a cover page and it does not seem (at least for me) to work. I assume from this recent change that they're working on it. The ADO-GL and UNO sites have recently been upgraded, work well, and are current.

Undoubtedly this was a huge undertaking, but in an environment where bus schedules and prices change frequently, several times a year at least (and often monthly) I question the comprehensiveness and accuracy of such a book past the date of printing.

Dear Bill,
You raise a good point. My experiences have shown me to weave my trips around what I discover when I actually arrive at a bus depot in Mexico. Although I frequently write in praise of the Mexican bus system overall, I will be curious to see how it is depicted in the book. Still I thought that I would pass the information along for its value in bringing to light the fact that Mexico has a very good bus service overall. Despite the questionable accuracy of the book beyond its printing date, I think that it might still serve a useful purpose for planning trips, especially to the inexperienced bus traveler to Mexico. Saludos, Wendy
